Connect2Music Project
Free Online Peer Mentor Program
It’s been said that music is the language of the soul, a concept our team has taken to heart. Connect2Music Project is LSU Louisiana Bass Festival's core program, an initiative in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to connect and share our passion for music by providing a free online peer mentoring program to K-12 students in need.
About Connect2Music
The Connect2Music Project provides a free online peer mentor program to underprivileged K-12 student musicians. Mentors are highly achieved high school and college students, and regular meetings and master classes will be supervised by professional musicians.
This project is co-founded by Evan Tsai, a rising young cellist/double bassist, and his mother, Yung-chiao Wei, Professor of Double Bass at LSU. Artistic Advisors include James VanDemark (Professor of Double Bass, Eastman School of Music), Derek Weller (Faculty, Interlochen Arts Academy), and Lawrence Wolfe (Assistant Principal Bassist, Boston Symphony Orchestra). Mentors are specialized in double bass or cello, and will be supervised by Yung-chiao Wei.
Current mentors include Moises Chirinos (Honduras/U.S.), Carmen Rodriguez (Panama/U.S.), Caroline Samuels (U.S.), Ivan Smetankin (Russia/U.S.), John St Cyr (U.S.), Evan Tsai (Taiwan/U.S.), and Cindy Xu (U.S.).
